Sri Lanka may be facing the worst-ever economic crisis, but Blue Star coach Banda Samarkun on Monday said his team's focus is on doing its best while participating in the AFC Cup football tournament for the first time. In the opening round match of the south zone, the Blue Star team has reached the close of making it to the group stage of the AFC Cup 2022 by defeating Nepal's Machhindra FC 2-1 at the Dashrath Rangshala Stadium in Kathmandu last week.

Coach Samarkun has said on the eve of the second round match against ATK Mohun Bagan that Sri Lanka is facing a lot of trouble at this time. Of course, it is having an impact on the game but we have come here to play football, as the team Blue Star. With the win against ATK Mohun Bagan, the Blue Star team will reach a winning distance from making it to the group stage in May and the coach has been keen on it despite not having a favourable preparation.

The coach has said that we are trying hard to do well at the international level. We are not bothered by the crisis and are also trying to achieve something at the international level. The coach has said that it was easy to come to Kolkata from Kathmandu but due to visa problems, he had to return home, which is also giving him ample opportunity to train.
