Bihar elections: First phase of voting starts, fate of many veterans at stake

Patna: Today the first phase of Bihar assembly elections has started. Voting has started in 71 seats of Bihar. There are many high profile seats in these 71 seats. Not only this, some seats have been at stake till the dignity of the ministers and some more seats have joined the high profile due to the famous faces. Among the prominent candidates in this list, Shreyasi Singh, who won a gold medal in Commonwealth Games, has joined the contest from Jamui. He is facing a tough fight with RJD's Vijay Prakash. Vijay is said to be a former Union minister and close to Lalu Prasad and is also the brother of Jayaprakash Narayan Yadav.

The other name is of Divya Prakash, daughter of Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav, who is contesting from Tarapur seat. However, in this first phase, six members of the state cabinet are also trying their luck. These include Prem Kumar from Gaya City, Vijay Kumar Sinha from Lakhisarai, Ram Narayan Mandal from Banka, Krishnanandan Prasad Verma from Jehanabad, Jaikumar Singh from Dinara, Santosh Kumar Nirala from Rajpur. A total of 1066 candidates have entered the electoral fray in the first phase. Of these, 952 male and 114 female candidates are in the fray. This time too, the main competition is being seen between the NDA and UPA coalition to look strong, although some parties have moved here and there.
