Patna: More than 100 people died on Thursday due to lightning during thunderstorms and rains in Bihar, while dozens of people got scorched. According to information received from the Disaster Management Department, a total of more than 100 people have died in 23 districts of the state due to lightning, with Gopalganj causing the maximum 13 casualties.

Eight in Nawada and Madhubani, six each in Siwan and Bhagalpur, five each in East Champaran, Darbhanga and Banka, three each in Khagaria and Aurangabad, West Champaran, Kishanganj, Jehanabad, Jamui, Purnia, Two people died in Supaul, Buxar and Kaimur and one each in Samastipur, Shivhar, Saran, Sitamarhi and Madhepura due to lightning. A shepherd has lost his life in Sheikhpura this morning.

Reports received from the districts said that more than 20 people were injured due to lightning, who have been admitted to the hospital for treatment. Storms and rains have also caused widespread damage to people's homes and property. CM Nitish Kumar expressed deep condolences to those who died of a thunderclap. He said that he is with the affected families in this time of disaster. CM Nitish Kumar has instructed to grant of Four lakh to the families of the deceased.
