Patna: Bihar is constantly witnessing a caste census these days. Now, amidst all this, former Deputy Chief Minister and Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Modi has tweeted. In his tweet, he wrote, "BJP has never been against caste census. So, we have been part of the resolution passed in the Assembly and the Legislative Council on this issue. BJP is also among the Bihar delegation to meet PM Modi."

On this, he said, "In 2011, Gopinath Munde of BJP had defended the party in Parliament in favor of caste census. In fact, during that time, when the Ministries of Rural Development and Urban Development conducted social, economic, ethnic surveys on the directions of the Central Government, crores of errors were found. The number of castes reached lakhs. In such a situation, his report was not made public due to huge irregularities. He was not a part of census or census.''

He also said, "Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha were in a province at the time of the last census of 1931 in the British Raj. Only 22 castes were censused out of the population of about 1 crore in Bihar at that time. Now, after 90 years, there is a big difference in economic, social, geographical, and political conditions. There are many technical and practical difficulties in conducting a caste census. However, the BJP is in principle in support of it.''

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has arrived in Delhi today to hold talks with PM Narendra Modi on the same matter. He had also written a letter to PM Modi before going to Delhi. Nitish Kumar has now arrived in Delhi today with a delegation.
