BJP- Why did Nawab Malik not resign even after his arrest?

Mumbai: The Maharashtra unit of the BJP has attacked the State's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government over the arrest of Nawab Malik, questioning why CM Uddhav Thackeray is not asking him to step down. On Saturday, BJP state president Chandrakant Patil told reporters in Pune that since some ministers of the MVA government, who were facing allegations earlier too, had resigned from their posts, Malik should also resign from the post following this practice.

Chandrakant Patil said that Nawab Malik has been booked under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and he has been arrested. If a government employee faces criminal charges and is arrested, then the person is not only suspended but also loses his position. The BJP leader said the same rule should apply to Nawab Malik and why is the CM not demanding his resignation?

He said that by not taking the resignation of Nawab Malik, the MVA government in the state is saving a criminal and the BJP will never tolerate it. The ED had on Wednesday arrested Maharashtra's Minority Affairs Minister Nawab Malik in connection with the probe into a money laundering case. Subsequently, the PMLA court had sent senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Nawab Malik to the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till March 3.
