Nagpur: The Bombay High Court in Nagpur has directed that no citizen in the city and its adjoining areas shall feed or attempt to feed stray dogs in public places, gardens etc. A bench of Justice SB Shukre and Justice AL Pansare directed the Municipal Commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation to ensure that no food is given to dogs at any place except at home. 

The court, in its order dated October 20, said, "If any person is interested in feeding stray dogs, he shall first adopt the stray dog, and bring them home." It will be registered in the Municipal Corporation office. Apart from this, the dog can also be kept in the shelter. There he can be fed by taking personal care with love and affection. The court has directed the Nagpur Municipal Corporation commissioner to ensure that stray dogs are not fed at any place except the dog feeder's own place or dog shelter home or any other authorized place. The Commissioner may also impose a fine which shall not exceed Rs.200 on persons violating these instructions. 

The court said in its order that now the time has come to take action. The court also directed the Police Commissioner and SP Nagpur Rural to take necessary steps to control the menace of stray dogs. In view of the menace of stray dogs, the Maharashtra government has allocated a budget of Rs 17 crore to initiate birth control measures for stray dogs. The court has allowed the allotment and directed the immediate release of this amount. The Bench said that the caught stray dogs can be kept in a shelter. Due to this, the court observed that after all one cannot forget that basically dog ​​is man's best friend and hence we should take it as a duty to take proper care of dogs. Due to this, the court said that if there is any obstacle in the way of the officers in implementing this order, then strict action will be taken against those people. in such obstacles, Appropriate offences should also be registered against them. The court will now hear the matter on November 23.
