The great batsman of the Indian team, Sachin Tendulkar, holds the world record for playing the most international matches in his ODI and Test career. However, in the shortest format of international cricket i.e. T20 International cricket, Sachin Tendulkar had only one match experience, which lasted till the end. This one-off Twenty20 international match was played by him on 01-December. On December 1, 2006, India played the first Twenty20 International match with South Africa. Earlier, India was not happy about this cricket format, nor it wants to go ahead in T20 cricket. However, two years before that T20I match was played between the women's teams in England (England vs New Zealand) in 2004 and the Australia and New Zealand men's teams in 2005, but this was India's first T20I match.

When India played its first T20I match
For the only T20 International match, Indian team went to South Africa, on December 1, 2006, at the Wanders Stadium in Johannesburg, the stage of T20 cricket was decorated. There was also Sachin Tendulkar, who was called the 'God of Cricket' in India's team, for whom this T20 International match proved to be the first and the last. After this, Sachin was never considered right for this format and neither did he show much interest in it. Whereas, in the IPL, he proved himself that he is also a big T20 player.

Sehwag was the captain of the Indian team
In this match played between India and South Africa, the captain of the Indian team was Virender Sehwag and the captain of the opposition team i.e. South Africa was Graeme Smith. In this match, South African captain Smith won the toss and choose to bat first and scored 126 runs in this 20-over match losing 9 wickets. No South African batsman played a big innings. Nobody even tried to bat fast with Albie Morkel. This is the reason that the score was very low and the wickets fell more.

On one hand, chasing the 127-run target, skipper Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar landed at the opening. The first wicket fell from India as Sachin Tendulkar, who was dismissed for 10 runs in 12 balls with the help of 2 fours. This was Sachin Tendulkar's T20I cricket's biggest and lowest score. Earlier, he also took one wicket in this match. On the one hand, the Indian team won this match with one ball and 6 wickets remaining, with Sehwag scoring 34 and Dinesh Mongia scoring 38 runs. It was also the first and last match of Mongia's T20I career.
