New Delhi: Road construction work is going on in the region to ease the access of army and equipment to the border from India amidst the ongoing tension from China on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. The Border Road Organization (BRO) is rapidly constructing roads and bridges in this sector. Under this, 3 different bridges have been built in Leh-Ladakh in record time. These bridges have been built at Neemu, Ule Topo, and Basgo. The work of widening of roads is going on.
40 bridges are being constructed in 3 years to facilitate military access to the border areas in Leh-Ladakh from BRO. Of these, 20 bridges have also been prepared. The work of constructing many strategic roads in the area is also going on in a war footing. 66 such strategic roads are to be built in the region by 2022. The road leading from Leh to Khardunga via Siachen and Daulat Beg Oldi is also being repaired. Along with the construction of new bridges, the old bridges are also being prepared in such a way that the heavy vehicles and equipment of the army do not have problems in passing through them.
The Airforce is also increasing the deployment of frontline fighters, helicopters, and transport fleet at all its major centers near the LAC in view of the increasing deadlock along the border with China in East Ladakh. The Airforce has deployed a fleet of C-17 Globemaster 3 transport aircraft and C-130J Super Hercules to deliver heavy military equipment and weapons to several advance bases to further strengthen India's military preparedness in the region.
