Chennai: Coronavirus has taken a terrible form at this time. Keeping this in mind, a major step has been taken in Tamil Nadu to research the effect of BCG vaccine on the elderly. The Tuberculosis Institute of the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has been approved for testing. According to the information received, Tamil Nadu Health Minister C Vijayabaskar spoke about this on Wednesday.


In his conversation, he said that Chief Minister K.K. Palaniswami gave this approval in an order. Earlier the ICMR had received approval from the state government to research the effect of Bacillus Calumet-Guarin (BCG) vaccine on senior citizens at the National Tuberculosis Research Institute (NIRT) in Chetpet. During that time, he had many things in one of his statements. During that time, he also said, 'The Tuberculosis Institute of ICMR will start testing soon.' He now hoped that 'the impact of Covid-19, hospitalization, and mortality will be reduced by applying the previously tested BCG vaccine to the elderly'.

Palaniswami has approved for this testing from the state. Among the measures to save the lives of people in the war against Covid-19, this measure has been described as an excellent step. Talking about this, Health Minister C Vijayabaskar said, 'the steps to be taken against infection will be accelerated further'. He also said that NIRT under ICMR is an internationally renowned institute in tuberculosis research.
