Recently the data released by the Taliban's Ministry of Public Health, over 40,000 people in Afghanistan are diagnosed with cancer every year, with 16,000 to 20,000 of them dead. According to media reports, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday that it plans to establish cancer care centres in numerous provinces in collaboration with the World Health Organization.

"Cancer affects around 40,000 persons in Afghanistan each year. Every year, between 16,000 and 20,000 people die as a result of the disease "Deputy Minister of Public Health Mohammad Hussien Ghias told reporters. 

Officials accused the earstwhile Afghan government for failing to take into account the country's fragile health system. "During the past governments' tenures, the health sector did not perform well," stated Ministry official Naimullah Ayoubi. According to the source, there are three functioning cancer care centres in Kabul, Kandahar, and Herat.
