Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh has expressed hope that the CM of Haryana will understand Punjab's approach on the Sutlej Yamuna Link (SYL) in view of the delicate groundwater situation in Punjab. CM said that Haryana is already taking 1 MAF more water than Punjab from the Sutlej-Yamuna Link Canal Project. He hopes that Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal would look at the issue from a real point of view when the matter would be discussed soon with him.

In response to a question asked by a resident of Patiala during his Facebook Live program, the Captain has emphasized to understand and sustain international principles related to water division. After 25 years, all agreements related to these invaluable sources are reviewed. He said the same thing to the Union Minister and CM Khattar during a video conference meeting, which took place this week on the orders of the Supreme Court.

The Chief Minister further said that he has told the Haryana and the Center that the Iraqi commission is 35 years old, and it is necessary to re-evaluate the availability of water in Punjab. Apart from this, 109 blocks of Punjab have gone into the dark zone due to the ill effects on the processes of global warming. He said that Punjab has more arable land than Haryana, yet Haryana has less 12.42 MAF seawater than Punjab with the current 12.48 MAF of hill water. The division of properties was done in 60:40 ratio, but the water of the Yamuna river was not divided like other properties.
