NEW DELHI: Several private schools have urged the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to lessen the weightage of the Term I test in the 2021-2022 academic year. This follows reports that numerous schools used "unfair tactics and malpractices" to grade students during the Term 1 examinations.

Some private schools have asked the CBSE to reduce the weightage of the Term I examination for the 2021-2022 session, claiming that many institutions used "unfair tactics and malpractices" in marking students during the Term 1 examinations. National Progressive Schools' Conference (NPSC) requested in a letter to CBSE Chairman Vineet Joshi that the weightage of the Term I Examination be reduced to between 20 percent and 30 percent, while the weightage of the Term II Examination be increased to between 70 percent and 80 percent. The letter comes just days after CBSE announced the results of Term 1 for classes 10 and 12. "It was noted that many schools used unfair techniques and malpractices during the Term I tests, which were held in home centres. As a result, a large number of pupils at these schools earned full grades in the majority of subjects.
