New Delhi: The Central Government has banned the export of onion. The government has taken this decision due to the increasing demand and rising prices of onion in the country. Let us tell you that at present this ban has been imposed till March of the coming year. In the notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, it has been told that the export of onion has been banned till March 31, 2024. 

The government had imposed 40 percent export duty: Reports say that in the DGFT notification it has also been said that on the demand of the countries, onion can be exported with the permission of the Central Government. Not only this, onion is currently being sold at the retail price of Rs 60 per kg in the country.

In August, the government had imposed 40 percent export duty on onion to reduce its export. This order was till 31 December 2023. However, the Central Government had exempted 'Bangalore Rose' variety of onion from export duty. This onion is grown around Bangalore and Karnataka region and has also got the GI tag in 2015.
