New Delhi: The Central government has challenged the Delhi High Court's verdict on the oxygen crisis in the Supreme court. The Central government has moved the Supreme Court against the contempt notice issued by delhi HC for not complying with the direction on oxygen supply for treatment of corona patients.
On the other hand, the Supreme court has agreed to consider the Centre's plea for an hourly hearing against the Delhi HC's contempt notice and directing officials to be present in the court in the case of lack of oxygen supply in Delhi hospitals. Chief Justice N V Raman has directed the Centre's plea on the contempt order of the High Court to be listed before a bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud. It may be recalled that the bench had heard the oxygen crisis and corona issues in Delhi.
The bench had said, 'We are looking at the horrible reality of people not getting oxygen or ICU beds in hospitals, the number of beds has been reduced due to low gas supply'. The bench had said, 'So, we are asking the Central government to give reasons as to why contempt proceedings were not initiated to comply with our May order and the Supreme court's April 30 order. To respond to the notice, we direct Piyush Goyal and Sumitra Dawara (senior central government officials) to appear tomorrow'.
