NEW DELHI: The government told the Lok Sabha that the Department of Space had planned as many as 19 missions this year, despite the fact that Chandrayaan-3, the next phase of India's moon mission, is scheduled for August 2022.

"Chandrayaan-3 is being developed based on the lessons learned from Chandrayaan-2 and ideas from national level specialists. Many relevant hardware and special tests have been performed satisfactorily, and the launch is set for August 2022 "Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister for Space, responded to a written query.

From January through December 2022, a total of 19 missions are planned, comprising eight 'Launch Vehicle Missions,' seven 'Spacecraft Missions,' and four 'Technology Demonstrator Missions,' according to Singh.

The Covid-19 epidemic has hampered several ongoing missions. In addition, he noted, reprioritization of programmes has occurred in the wake of Space Sector reforms and the introduction of new demand-driven models.
