Patna: A sand-laden boat capsized in river Ganga at Chhapra in Bihar causing a dangerous accident. 14 labourers and some others were also present on the boat. All the workers are feared drowned. However, some workers have swum out in the river. Senior officers rushed to the spot as soon as the accident was reported and the missing labourers are being searched. According to sources, the accident occurred due to strong wind and rain.

According to sources, the workers were returning late on Thursday night with sand, and due to darkness, the workers would have understood that the accident had taken place before that. The accident took place near the border of Doriganj and Maner. The boat was returning after loading sand from Koelwar. The boat was carrying some more people besides the sand loading and unloading workers. The missing labourers in Ganga are said to be from Muzaffarpur and Motihari. The search is being carried out with the help of divers, but the rescue team is facing problems due to the rising water level of the river Ganga.

It may be recalled that sand-laden boats have been sinking near Doriganj and Maner in the past. Just the last two days ago, a boat laden with sand had sunk at the same place. All the workers were safely saved in this case. On 10th August last month, a boat overturned and sank after hitting the pillar of Ara-Chhapra bridge near Bindgawa village. Six persons on board the boat had gone missing. The boat was returning from Mahuli Ghat in UP after selling sand. Due to darkness, the boat collided with the pillar of Ara-Chhapra bridge near Bindgawa village.
