New Delhi: Charge sheet has been filed against Sharajeel Imam in Saket court of Delhi. Sharjil is accused of making a seditious speech and inciting violence. He was arrested during the ongoing protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) in the country. The Delhi Police arrested him from Jehanabad in Bihar on 28 January.

Delhi Police had registered an FIR in this case. Sharjil Imam was arrested from Jehanabad, Bihar. He was accused of inciting violence. The video of an alleged provocative speech by Sharjeel went viral on social media. This speech was delivered on 13 December. During the investigation, on the basis of the evidence, the police had imposed him on sections 124A (sedition) and 153A (spreading hatred among people on the basis of religion, language, race, etc.) of the IPC.

The Delhi Police has said in its statement that on December 15, students of Jamia Millia University organized a rally in New Friends Colony and Jamia in Delhi against the Citizenship Amendment Act, during which serious violence took place. According to the police, arson, violence and stone pelting also took place during this period. Due to this, public and private property was severely damaged.
