CHENNAI: Heavy rainfall in the Basin Bridge-Vyasarpadi section of Chennai has led to the cancellation of eleven express trains departing from Chennai Central. The water level at Bridge No. 14, situated between Vyasarpadi and Basin Bridge, surpassed the danger mark due to incessant downpours.
The Divisional Railway Manager for Chennai, Southern Railway, issued a statement regarding the situation caused by the heavy rains. The statement expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and provided a list of affected trains. These included the "12007 Mysuru Shatabti Express, 12675 Coimbatore Kovai Express, 12243 Coimbatore Shatabti Express, 22625 KSR Bengaluru AC Double Decker Express, 12639 KSR Bengaluru Brindavan Express, and 16057 Tirupati Sapthagiri Express," all of which were suspended until further notice.
B. Guganesan, the Chief Public Relations Officer for Southern Railway, confirmed that passengers scheduled on these cancelled trains would receive full refunds.
The meteorological department had previously issued a comprehensive rainfall warning for several areas in southern and eastern India due to an approaching cyclonic storm over the Southwest Bay of Bengal. Consequently, heavy to very heavy rainfall was experienced in most regions starting from Sunday, intensifying the situation further.
