The historical action drama Chhava starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandana and Akshaye Khanna has earned INR 116.5 crore at the box office, a running spell since three days. The movie released on 14th February is directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Maddock studios.
According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, Chhava has become the highest grossing movie of the year till now, surpassing Akshay Kumar’s Skyforce. It might dominate the box office in the coming days, after the weekend and the pre-sales for Monday. It saw the higest footfall in morning shows in 2025.
Chhava is based on the life of Maratha King Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and his battle against Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The movie is narrated based on a novel with the same title, written by Shivaji Sawant. It is earning huge, especially in the state of Maharashtra and that too in Pune and Mumbai owing to Shivaji’s cult popularity in the state.
Apart from Maharashtra, Chhava had 50% earnings from rest of the country on Sunday. It saw 31.08% rise in earnings on Sunday, which was the third day since the movie release. Sacnilk said that the movie earned 48.5 crore on Sunday alone, taking the collection to Rs.116.5 crore.
The movie is made on a budget of Rs.130 crores, and is already performing great since Day 1. A movie needs to earn twice of its production cost to cover the expenses of production and marketing. Notably, Chhava has even taken over Pushpa 2’s record of the first day earnings.
Chhava also becomes the highest grossing movie of Vicky Kaushal’s career. Overseas, it could earn INR 18.5 crore upon the third day of the release. It earned Rs 31 crore on the opening day, then Rs. 37 crore on the second and as mentioned above Rs. 48.5 crore on Sunday. It is expected to become the highest grossing period drama in Bollywood’s history. Chhava is even appreciated on social media as well as by the critics for its narration, action sequences and the stunning performances by the cast.
The film also stars Ashutosh Rana and Divya Dutta in pivotal roles. Chhava’s music is composed by AR Rahman and lyrics are penned by Irshad Kamil.
