Patna: Liquor is being sold in Bihar even after the liquor ban. More than 40 people have lost their lives in the state in the last month due to the consumption of poisonous liquor. The Government is also in the process of taking action after the deaths due to alcoholism. CM Nitish Kumar is going to hold a review meeting on the rigidity of the liquor ban today. More than 40 people died in three districts of the state this month after consuming poisonous liquor.

In Bettiah alone, 20 persons died after consuming liquor, while more than 12 people died in Gopalganj. On the other hand, six persons fell prey in Samastipur and Muzaffarpur. The highest number of actions has been taken in these four districts. More than 19,000 litres of domestic and foreign liquor has been seized in these four districts. The police team conducted 749 raids in which 568 persons were arrested.

As a result, 15,246 litres of foreign liquor, 3,435 litres of desi liquor, 497 litres of Mahua liquor and 500 litres of spirit have been seized. Police have registered 347 cases. Bihar Police is conducting a catch-up drive against liquor dealers before the same review meeting. More than 570 persons have been arrested so far. In addition, illegal liquor kilns are being demolished.
