Assam: Three persons, including the groom, were booked by Police for allegedly conducting child marriage in Assam's Nagaon district. The incident reportedly took place in the Rupahihat area of the central Assam district.

Sources said that one Wabadul Islam of Dakshin Khatowal village went to marry a minor girl from the same village.

When the wedding ceremony was going on, the local police reached the spot and arrested the bridegroom and two others on spot, adding that police registered a suo moto case in this regard and started further investigation.

On January 28, police received information that a girl child was being married off in Dakhin Khatowal village. Inspector Sanjit Kumar Ray, Officer-in-Charge of Rupahihat police station, and his team launched a raid. The house of Abdul Kalam, where child marriage was taking place, was raided, and the culprits were apprehended.

"Obaidul Islam and two accused men who accompanied him, namely Gulzar Hussain, a resident of Dokhin Khatowal village, and Rufol Amin, a resident of Maaripar village under Juria police station, were detained. The victim was rescued "said a Rupahihat police station official.

A case has been filed at Rupahihat police station under sections 9, 10, and 11 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act of 2006, as well as Section 12 of the POCSO Act of 2012.
