He has become the highest-playing player for the West Indies. Earlier, the record was named to another great batsman Brian Lara of the West Indies. Brian Lara played 299 ODIs for the West Indies team. This was Gayle's 300th match. Gayle is the first Indian batsman to score 23 centuries in ODIs.
He also has the highest record of hitting 326 sixes. He is the only player to hit a double century in ODIs for the West Indies. Gayle also broke Brian Lara's record as the batsman for the West Indies team, scoring 7th in his innings against Team India.
