Citroen has announced that its next subcompact SUV, designated CC21, would be unveiled on September 16 in the United States. The manufacturer announced the news on social media, along with a teaser photograph of the SUV.

The forthcoming SUV is termed "Made in India for Indians" by Citroen.According to rumours, the compact Citroen SUV, which will most likely be known as the C3 in most regions, will debut first in Asia and then in Latin America next year.

The classic emblem is visible above the grille in the teaser shot. The C3's bonnet will most likely have a butterfly design similar to that found on the C5 Aircross SUV. In the teaser image, the LED DRLs also appear futuristic, and are slightly different from the ones shown on the French car giant's initial offering in India. The Citroen C3 will be the French automaker's second offering in India, following the C5 Aircross SUV that was released last year. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnate, Renault Kiger, and Mahindra XUV300 will all be competitors in 2022.

The Citroen C3, codenamed CC21, will be the first SUV in India to use a flex-fuel engine that can run on ethanol. Citroen is expected to equip the C3 SUV with a 1.2-litre flex-fuel engine with turbocharging, connected to either a 5-speed manual or automatic transmission, according to sources. The engine has a maximum power output of 130 horsepower. A 1.6-litre normally aspirated engine may also be available for the SUV.

Citroen will use its new Common Modular Platform (CMP) for the C3 SUV, which aims to keep the cost of the vehicle down by as much as possible and make it more affordable in markets like India where SUVs under the four-metre category have seen one of the biggest rises in passenger vehicle demand.
