Lucknow: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government led by CM Yogi Adityanath in Uttar Pradesh has given a big gift to workers working under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 (MGNREGA) during the festive season. The Yogi Government has increased the honorarium of MGNREGA contract employees, which will increase from Rs.1,590 to Rs. 3,220. They will start getting this benefit from this month (October).

Addressing the MGNREGA conference in the state capital Lucknow on Monday (October 4, 2021), CM Yogi said, "The number of Gram Rozgar Sevaks in the state is 35,246. At present, they are getting an honorarium of Rs 6,780, which has been decided to increase to Rs 10,000.'' According to CM Yogi, the increased honorarium of MNREGA workers will be effective from the month of October 2021. These employees have made a commendable contribution in taking rural development towards new heights with their hard work and effort.

CM Yogi further said that ''From April 2020, the payment of honorarium of contract employees of UP is being made in their bank account. Arrangements have now been made to give maternity leave of 180 days to women contractual employees in the state.'' CM Yogi also announced that the recommendation of Deputy Commissioner MNREGA has been made mandatory to remove any MNREGA employee from work.
