New Delhi: The Congress party is gearing up for a significant shift in its Delhi headquarters, with plans to move to a new address named Indira Bhawan in the second week of January 2024. The decision, initially speculated to coincide with the Congress's foundation day on December 28, reflects the party's desire to honor the legacy of the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The chosen location for the new headquarters is 9 Kotla Road in Central Delhi, a six-storey building adjacent to the BJP's headquarters on Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Marg. The upcoming inauguration ceremony is expected to be presided over by the party's interim president, Sonia Gandhi. The new headquarters is poised to become the official address not only for the Congress party but also for its affiliated wings, including the NSUI and Sewa Dal.

This move follows a notice from the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry instructing the Congress to vacate its current premises at 24 Ashok Road. The new building will feature two gates, with one directly opening onto Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Marg. Despite this, the party has reportedly decided to designate Kotla Road as its official address.

The relocation is seen as a strategic response to the changing dynamics and requirements of the party, providing a fresh start and a symbolic connection to its historical roots. The shift to Indira Bhawan signifies a new chapter for the Congress, combining the party's legacy with its future aspirations.
