New Delhi: Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi has made major changes to the organisation, freeing four senior leaders, including Ghulam Nabi Azad, from the responsibility of the General Secretary, along with three new general secretaries such as Randeep Surjewala, Tariq Anwar and Jitendra Singh.

According to a statement issued by the party's organization general secretary KC Venugopal, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who has been holding the responsibility of the Secretary-General in-charge (Up-East) so far, has now been officially entrusted with the charge of the entire state. Earlier, the western part of the state was in charge of Jyotiraditya Scindia, who had joined the BJP a few months ago. The party's chief spokesperson Surjewala has been entrusted with the responsibility of general secretary in-charge for Karnataka. Anwar, who returned to the Congress from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ahead of the last Lok Sabha elections, has been given the charge of Kerala and Lakshadweep as general secretary.

Jitendra Singh, who has so far been in charge of Odisha, has been sent to Assam as general secretary. Former Uttarakhand CM Harish Rawat, who is playing the role of General Secretary-in-Charge for Assam, has been tasked with Punjab. Four veteran leaders Azad, Ambika Soni, Motilal Vora and Mallikarjun Kharge have been freed from the post of Secretary General. Azad was holding charge of Haryana, Ambika J&K, Vora (Party Administration) and Kharge Maharashtra.
