New Delhi: The results of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections, which were in the headlines like any assembly election, have been released and in this election, the Bharatiya Janata Party performed well and won 49 seats. While the performance of the saffron party was strong on the one hand, the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suffered a humiliating defeat.

This defeat was embarrassing for the Congress and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), because both these parties had fielded more than 100 candidates in the municipal elections, but could win only 2 seats. Both these victories went to the Congress account, while TDP's account was also not opened. The Congress, which defeated the BJP in most elections, also lost badly in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. The Congress fielded its candidates in 146 of the 150 seats of the corporation and only 2 could win.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) was in worse condition than the Congress, as it fielded candidates in 106 seats and failed to open an account for the party by winning a single candidate. Talking of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which fielded 149 candidates in the Municipal Corporation and to win the party handed over the task of campaigning to the central leadership. The effect of this bet also showed and 48 seats went to his account. Owaisi's party AIMIM slipped to the third position in the election.
