NEW DELHI: The Upper House of Parliament on Monday approved the resolutions of the government to make Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh two Union Territories by scrapping article 370. While the BJP is celebrating this "historic decision", the main opposition Congress is unable to determine whether it should supports or opposes the central government's move.

Former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader P. Chidambaram described it as the worst day in India's constitutional history, Chidambaram warned that every party should wake up all parties on the issue as it can be tried on another state, dissolving the state government and imposing President's rule.  Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad opposed the Centre's proposal to remove Section 370 which provides a special state to Jammu and Kashmir.

Replying to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement in the Rajya Sabha, Azad accused the BJP of killing the Constitution and democracy.
