New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana has thanked the Centre last Saturday for approving the names of nine judges in a record six days after the collegium recommended for promotion to the apex court. At the same time, he had emphasized that he hoped that the names of judges for appointment to various High Courts would also be cleared at the same pace. In fact, recently Ramana said, 'All of you gave me credit for the appointments. But that is not my credit. I am not Tendulkar (Sachin), the entire team has to work together, only then will we win the match.'

Let me tell you that the CJI was speaking at a felicitation ceremony organized by the Bar Council of India. In fact, a few days after the appointment of three women judges, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was attended by several judges of the apex court. It included six other judges in the apex court, a future woman Chief Justice. Referring to the law minister for approving the names for appointment to the apex court, Ramana said, "He cleared all the nine names at a jet speed. I think in a record six days' time, names were approved at a fast pace without any murmur or anything else.''

He also said, "I should thank the Prime Minister, the Law Minister, the Government of India for approving the names. I expect equal momentum for appointments to the High Courts. In the next one month, we expect 90 percent vacancies (in high courts) to be filled up in the country.''
