Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation management's proposed tariff has cleared that the Government Electricity Distribution Corporation is buying electricity at costly rates and selling it to private companies at cheaper rates. The audit also admits that Dakshinanchal Power Distribution Corporation is Rs5.26/- Purchase at a unit rate to torrent power Agra at Rs 4.45/- Selling at the unit rate.

This is causing a loss of Rs 162 crore to the corporation every year. Three crore users of the state are facing costly electricity. In the midst of discussions on the privatization of power supply arrangements, the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Consumer Council has studied the data on the proposed electricity rates of Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam and resolved that privatization arrangements will not be successful.

Council president Avhesh Kumar Verma said, the audit conducted by Dakshinanchal company with an independent auditor firm has revealed shocking cases. Verma has sought to review the contract of torrent power from the government as well as to conduct an investigation of the case. He said the government had formed a three-member committee to investigate the privatization, torrent power and Noida Power, but the investigation is still pending.
