The Nobel Prize in Chemistry is awarded to Benjamin List and David W.C. MacMillan in 2021 for their work on asymmetric organocatalysis. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm, Sweden, bestows the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

"For Alfred Nobel's own work, chemistry was the most essential science. Chemical knowledge was used in the development of his inventions as well as the industrial methods he used. Nobel mentioned chemistry as the second prize area in his testament "According to the Academy.

Emmanuelle Charpentier and Jennifer A. Doudna shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2020 for developing a technique for genome editing. The CRISPR/Cas9 genetic scissors were one of the most cutting-edge technologies in gene technology, according to the researchers. The technique has had a transformative influence on the life sciences, resulting in the development of novel cancer therapies.

The news comes only one day after the Academy awarded Syukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann, and Giorgio Parisi the Nobel Prize in Physics for their pioneering contributions to our knowledge of complex physical systems.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has so far honoured 186 persons, seven of them are women, for their contributions to the area. Marie Curie, who was given the Nobel Prize for her contributions to the progress of chemistry through the discovery of the elements radium and polonium, the isolation of radium, and the research of the nature and compounds of this unique element, is among the laureates. The prize includes a monetary award of ten million Swedish kronor, which will be split evenly amongst the laureates.
