Lightning strikes claim 9 lives in Odisha, West Bengal

In the meantime, 9 persons lost their lives due to lightning in 5 districts of West Bengal and Odisha. 12 persons are said to be injured. While 4 persons have died in Bengal, 5 people have been killed in Odisha. Bengal officials said, two people including a woman were killed in a lightning strike at Nandigram in East Midnapore. In addition, 7 persons have been injured here. All of them work in a field.

The situation is worsening due to floods in 7 cities of Bengal. The flood situation in Hooghly, East and West Midnapore, Howrah, South 24 Parganas, Birbhum and West Vardhaman has worsened. According to officials, it has been receiving continuous rainfall since Friday night. There was some relief on Saturday morning, but after that, it has started raining again in the evening, which has made the situation worse.

Apart from Bengal, Odisha has also been devastated by the rains. Five persons have died due to lightning in three cities here. Three women were among the dead. The deaths took place in Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, and Balasore. According to police, the accident took place when all of them were cultivating paddy. The injured are undergoing treatment at the hospital. Moreover, police said, one person died of electrocution while cultivating in Kasabjaipur village of Balasore.
