NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Home Affairs has approved the Delhi Annual Budget for 2023–24. The Delhi Government has been informed of the approval, source said.

The lieutenant governor's office, the Ministry of Home Affairs has cleared the Delhi government's budget and forwarded it to the AAP dispensation. This declaration comes amid a dispute between the municipal government of Delhi and the federal government over the day's hold on the budget presentation.

Kailash Gahlot, the finance minister for Delhi, had earlier in the day announced that the budget file had been sent again to the Union home ministry for approval. The ministry gave the budget its blessing a few hours later. He said,  said that the file for the Delhi government's budget approval was submitted both physically and via email to the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The presentation of the Delhi government's Budget for 2023-24, scheduled for today, March 21, was actually put on hold with the Arvind Kejriwal-led dispensation and the central government trading charges over allocations under various heads.

Earlier today, it was reported that  Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to "not stop Delhi's budget", amid a row between the Central government and the Aam Aadmi Party dispensation in the national capital over the issue. It reads that "The budget of any state has been halted for the first time in the nation's 75-year existence. Why are you upset with Delhi residents? Do not halt the Delhi Budget, please. The people of Delhi are pleading with you to support the budget as they fold their hands "In his letter, he stated. For the first time in India's history, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs  has prevented the Delhi government from delivering its annual Budget for 2023–24 on its scheduled date of March 21, according to a statement made by Delhi Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday.
