New Delhi: The Delhi High Court has asked the Center and the JNU administration to respond to the petition challenging the reservation policy of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in the current academic session on Thursday. An NGO has filed this petition and alleged that the university is not giving 5 percent compulsory reservation for students with disabilities in various categories.

Two days earlier, the Delhi High Court had asked the Central Government and Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) to file an affidavit on a petition challenging the 27 per cent reservation applicable for the OBC category. The court has given the defendants 2 weeks to file the affidavit. The High Court also asked for the filing of an affidavit over a petition challenging the provision of 27 per cent reservation for candidates belonging to the OBC category in post-graduate courses in central educational institutions, especially the JNU.

During the hearing, the Delhi High Court said that when the said affidavits are filed, it will investigate the matter in detail. The court gave the defendants 2 weeks to file an affidavit. An office memorandum was issued on April 20, 2008 by the Union Ministry of Human Resources (HRD) with provisions related to OBC reservation. This provision was challenged in the Delhi High Court through a petition.
