New Delhi: Research by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) amid the threat of delta variants revealed that "neutral antibodies were not seen against delta variants (B1.617.2) in serum samples, 58.1 percent of a shot of oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine produced as Covishield in India. Moreover, 16.1 percent of samples could not be detected after the second dose.

Dr. T Jacob John, former head of the department of microbiology at Christian Medical College-Vellore recently, says, "The level of neutralizing antibodies may be significantly lower that it may not be detected, but it may still protect a person from infection and serious illness.'' In addition, some cell immunity can also prevent infection and serious illness. In fact, the tytraces of neutralizing antibodies that specifically target and kill the Sars-CoV-2 virus or prevent it from entering the human cell were lower than the B1 variant smaller than the delta variant.

This led to the first wave of infection. Compared to B1, neutralizing antibody tytrace against delta version was 78 percent less among one-shot recipients, 69 percent among two shot recipients, 66 percent among transitioners and one-shot recipients, and 38 percent less.
