Guwahati: Nandita Saikia B.A., a girl resident of Naba Kathbari village of Dhakukhana in Lakhimpur district. A third-semester student at Dhemaji's Maridhal College, who was critically injured in a knife attack in Dhemaji on Saturday. He died during treatment at the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH).

According to reports, Nandita along with her fellow classmate Kashmera Dutta and Kashmera's father Deba Dutta had attacked a man named Rintu Sarma with a knife at Dhemaji bus stand in broad daylight on Saturday. The three injured were immediately rushed to Dhemaji Civil Hospital. However, in view of Nandita's health condition, she was shifted to Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh. On Monday, Nandita's health deteriorated and she died during treatment at the hospital. Police have arrested the attacker Rintu Sharma.

One person, Green Choudhary, has given information about the incident on Twitter and urged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take strict action in this matter. According to her Twitter profile, she is a 'sevika', co-in-charge of the state BJP Mahila Morcha, Assam Pradesh social media.
