Dehradun: The Dhami government of Uttarakhand seems very strict about cow smugglers. Uttarakhand Director General of Police (DGP) Ashok Kumar announced on Saturday (January 28) that people involved in illegal cow smuggling will now be punished under the Gangster Act. The order of the DGP has been issued to the police stations of all 13 districts of the state.

According to media reports, ADG V Murugesan has said that 'All 13 districts of Uttarakhand have been instructed to register cases under the Gangster Act against gangs involved in illegal activities of cattle smuggling or cow slaughter.' At the same time, reacting to this matter, state BJP spokesperson Naveen Thakur has said that Hindu groups have expressed happiness over this step and have termed it as a historic achievement of the Uttarakhand government. Thakur also said that the implementation of the act would reduce cow smuggling in the state and thanked the Pushkar Dhami-led government.

Along with this, Uttarakhand Congress spokesperson Garima Dasauni has also welcomed this step and said that it is a good decision for the safety of cows. However, he has taunted the BJP saying, 'But the country ranks first in beef exports and sources also say that most of the beef exporters have a direct connection with the BJP.'
