Chennai: Controversy erupted in the Lok Sabha during the Winter Session of Parliament when Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MP DNV Senthilkumar took a swipe at the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). Senthilkumar asserted, "The power of the BJP lies in winning elections mainly in Hindi heartland states, or what we refer to as the Gaumutra states. You cannot make inroads into South India."

These remarks by Senthilkumar came on the heels of the BJP's significant victories in the Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh assembly elections. Responding to the comments, BJP MP Annapurna Devi stated, "The people of the state have voted for BJP, and they trust PM Modi... Individuals making such statements exhibit a shallow mindset and seem envious of PM Modi's popularity worldwide."

BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar also criticized Senthilkumar for his remarks, asserting, "BJP is accepted throughout the country. Whoever is making these statements lacks knowledge." Sarkar further claimed that Senthilkumar is "unaware of India's culture," stating, "He is not acquainted with the culture of India, but we all know that people trust BJP, and PM Modi is not just an Indian leader but has become a world leader." The exchange highlighted the ongoing political tensions and regional dynamics within the Indian political landscape.
