A surprising incident happened this morning in Kathua, Jammu, when a goods train kept running for 70 kilometers on the railway track without a driver. The incident took place at 8:47 am after the goods train loaded with crushers left Kathua station for Hoshiarpur in Punjab.

Driver negligence:

The driver of the train told that he had forgotten to apply the handbrake and had gone somewhere, after which due to the slope, the train automatically started moving on the track. According to the driver, he was not present there when the train started moving.

Action of Railway officials:

As soon as the news of the train running without a driver was received, there was panic among the railway officials. Due to the sloping route, the train had gained a lot of speed, due to which the railway officials immediately started trying to stop the train.

Challenge to stop the train:

To stop the train, railway officials made announcements everywhere with the train number and railway employees were deployed at every station. It was not easy to stop the train because of the sloping route and high speed.

Train stopped after 70 kilometers:

After about 70 kilometers, railway employees succeeded in stopping the train by placing wooden blocks at Dasuha in Hoshiarpur. No one was injured in this incident, although the train suffered considerable damage.

Investigation started:

The team from Firozpur is reaching Jammu to investigate this incident. Railway officials are trying to find out the reasons for this incident and take necessary steps to prevent such incidents in future.
