On the auspicious occasion of Durga Ashtami, former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh expressed greetings and prayed for the happiness and prosperity of the people.

"On the auspicious occasion of Durga Ashtami, my warmest greetings to all. May Maa Durga's blessings lead us all along the right path and provide us happiness and prosperity in our lives. Mata Di, Jai Mata Di, Jai Mata Di, Jai Mat" Singh sent out a tweet.

On Maha Ashtami, the eighth day of Chaitra Navratri, people worship Mahagauri. Mahagauri is supposed to be Goddess Durga's eighth avatar. 'Mahagauri' is a Sanskrit word that means "very bright." She climbs aboard the ox. Mahagauri can have many different shapes.

The Goddess Durga and her nine forms are worshipped during the Chaitra Navratri celebrations. Devotees offer their prayers to Goddess Durga and fast for nine days during this time. Ram Navami, or the Hindu Lord Rama's birthday, falls on the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri.
