Srinagar: After the abrogation of Section 370 from Jammu and Kashmir and the creation of union territory, there has to be a separate delimitation in the state. On Tuesday, the Election Commission has convened the first meeting of the matter. The meeting is scheduled to begin shortly to discuss the delimitation of Assembly seats in Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir will have a union territory as well as an assembly.

The Election Commission will hold preliminary discussions at the meeting. In view of the Assembly seats, the arguments of all the parties will be kept and the situation in the state will also be looked into. Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora, both the Election Commissioner and other senior officials of the Election Commission will be present at the meeting. It may be mentioned that Jammu and Kashmir has been declared a Union Territory and Ladakh has been separated. Jammu and Kashmir being a Union Territory and there will be an assembly, meaning there will be a state government and a cabinet.

Ladakh, on the other hand, will remain a union territory only. At the same time, the Governor will not rule the Lieutenant Governor. In Jammu and Kashmir, there are 111 assembly seats in the state. Out of which 87 are under Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The remaining 24 are in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Now, in the new delimitation, four seats in Ladakh's account will be removed because there will be no assembly.
