Kolkatta: The State Election Commission (SEC) announced on Thursday that the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) polls will be held on December 19. The deadline for submitting nominations is December 1.

The nomination forms will be examined the next day. Candidates have until December 4 to withdraw their names from the race. The polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 19.

On the 21st of December, the votes will be counted. This will be West Bengal's first major election since the Trinamool Congress earned a landslide victory in the state's assembly elections in May 2021.

In the 294-member West Bengal assembly, the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC won a resounding victory, capturing 213 seats. The BJP came in second place with 77 seats, despite losing the election.
