Elon Musk’s X Soon to Introduce Feature for Blocking Links in Replies

Elon Musk's social media platform X is preparing to roll out a new feature that will let users block links in replies to their posts. Although the feature hasn't been officially announced, it is likely a measure to combat the persistent issue of spam bots, which often flood replies with self-promotional links.

The feature was initially discovered by independent app researcher Nima Owji and later confirmed by Christopher Stanley, X's senior director of security engineering. Stanley acknowledged the development, stating, "My team built this."

While this new option might offer relief to users plagued by spam bots posting irrelevant links, it could also pose challenges for those trying to verify information or fact-check posts. There is currently no information on whether this feature will be accessible to free users or if it will be restricted to X's paid subscribers, similar to other recent updates on the platform.

Since acquiring the platform, Musk has focused on addressing spam bots. Earlier this year, he announced a "systemic purge of bots & trolls" and vowed to hold accountable those responsible for creating such bots, promising to apply "the full force of the law" against them.

Additionally, Musk had previously tested a ‘Not a Bot’ program in the Philippines and New Zealand, requiring new users to pay a $1 annual fee for basic features like replying, liking, or bookmarking posts.
