Employees and engineers of Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Employees Union are protesting against the amendment in the Electricity Act 2003 at all the divisional and circle levels of the state on Wednesday. Union General Secretary Hiralal Verma said that the amendments to the Electricity Act 2003, which were pending in Parliament since 2014, are now ready to be enacted through the ordinance. Most of the state governments, including Himachal Pradesh, have already sent their disagreements about these amendments to the central government and electricity workers and engineers are also agitating against it. He said that with the passage of this, it would be mandatory to divide companies working in the distribution of electricity into two or more companies.

He alleged that amendments in the Electricity Act 2003 are being brought with the objective of private sector participation in the energy sector.
