Earlier on Friday, the ED had recovered Rs 20 crore in cash from a house in south Kolkata of Arpita Mukherjee, considered close to Chatterjee. Partha Chatterjee was the Education Minister in Mamata Banerjee's government when this scam took place. The Enforcement Directorate is probing the money laundering aspect against those allegedly involved in the fraud.

At present, Arpita Mukherjee is said to be close to Partha Chatterjee, a minister in the West Bengal government.   At the moment, the question is how did Arpita Mukherjee, who once played a side role in Bengali films, become close to Partha Chatterjee, who was counted among the stalwarts of the ruling Trinamool Congress? Arpita Mukherjee has also been the face of Partha Chatterjee's Durga Puja celebrations in 2019 and 2020 and in the poster released during Durga Puja, Partha Chatterjee's name was written as the president of the association.
