SHILLONG: Former President Shri Ram Nath Kovind launched a joint publication by Shoolini University (SU) and the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) on March 23, 2023.

Under title 'Building a Sustainable Future - How Universities Can Help Implement SDG Goals' was released at the National Conference of Vice-Chancellors at the University of Science and Technology (USTM), Meghalaya.

The Governor of Assam, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, and the Education Minister of Meghalaya were present at the ceremony in addition to Mr. Kovind, the head of the Prime Minister's Economic Advisory Council, and Bibek Debroy.

Prof. Atul Khosla, vice chancellor of Shoolini University, praised Prof. SS Chandel, director of the Center of Excellence in Energy Science and Technology, for his assistance when he was in Meghalaya for the occasion.

The publication included recommendations for the Central and State Governments, Regulatory Authorities such as the UGC, NAAC, Scientific Funding Agencies, etc., and the Higher Education Institutions in India, according to Prof. Atul Khosla. A steering committee led by Shoolini University Chancellor Prof. PK Khosla, AIU Secretary General Dr. Pankaj Mittal, Prof. Atul Khosla, and Prof. SS Chandel oversaw the endeavour to create a high-quality paper for implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Prof Chandel said, the document was created through talks, interactive workshops, and debates with 17 teams for each SDG made up of more than 50 scientists from Shoolini University.  Shoolini University had previously adopted the SDG principles for research and education, he said. Under the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022, Shoolini University was placed second internationally for implementing SDG 7 (Affordable & Clean Energy) and sixth for SDG 6 (Water Use & Care).

The ceremoney was attended by more than 550 vice chancellors, 50 statutory officials, 10 illustrious international delegates and policymakers, and more than 20 directors of IISc, IITs, and NITs.

Founded in 2009, Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences is a private institution with a focus on research and full UGC recognition. It is known as a top institution in India for its emphasis on innovation, excellent job placements, and top-notch teaching. The university, which is tucked away in the lower Himalayas, has been accredited by NAAC and is ranked by the NIRF.
