Holi is one of the most important festivals celebrated in India. Holi is celebrated to welcome spring and to rejoice the triumph of the good over the evil. Destinations like Mathura, Vrindavan, Jaipur and Barsana celebrate Holi in unique ways. However, the way Holi is celebrated in Indore makes it one of the destinations worth traveling to. Indore is one of the biggest cities in Madhya Pradesh and is one of the historically important cities in the region too.

It is to be noted that one of the important traditions of Holi in Indore is faag yatras carried our on rang panchami from the Bada Ganpati area of the city, all the way to Rajwada via Malharganj. People sing and dance, and play with gulal and join the procession.

While most of the festivities and celebrations of rang panchami take place near the premises of Rajwada, the city is known to host various other bashes for people who’d rather not get pulled into a crowd as huge as the kind that gathers at the iconic landmark. Indore is known to combine playing Holi with colors with a lot of dance, music, bhaang and feasting through the day.

Rang panchmi falls on the fifth day of the month of Phalgun and is considered to be an auspicious day among Hindu families. The entire city comes together with enthusiasm and zest to make each Holi memorable. Usually water tankers and color pumps are organized, but this year, there is a strict ban on any usage of water. Most places this year are trying to play an eco-friendly Holi.
