Farmers' Mahapanchayat in Karnal today, internet closed in 5 districts, heavy security forces deployed

Karnal: Farmers protesting against agricultural laws brought by the Central Government are now organizing Kisan Mahapanchayats from place to place. Farmers have announced the Mahapanchayat in Karnal, Haryana on September 7. In view of the Mahapanchayat of farmers, the Haryana government has stopped internet services in Karnal and its four neighbouring districts. Internet services in Karnal will be suspended from 12.30 pm on September 6 to 11.59 pm on September 7.

According to reports, the Haryana government on Tuesday directed to stop internet services in terms of law and order in view of the call of Kisan Mahapanchayat in Karnal district. An official spokesperson informed that the Kisan Mahapanchayat held in Karnal could create hurdles in law and order. Internet services are feared to be misused. He said rumours can spread through social media through mobile phones which could damage public property and facilities.

In view of this, internet services have also been suspended in Karnal as well as its neighbours Kurukshetra, Panipat, Kaithal and Jind districts. In order to maintain security and law and order in Karnal, the Secretary, State Home Department has directed to discontinue mobile internet services in the exercise of powers conferred on rule 2 of the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017.
