Fatal SUV Mishap: Three Dead, Dozens Injured in Kishtwar Gorge Plunge

Srinagar: In a tragic incident that unfolded late Friday evening in the Hakoo village of Kishtwar district, Jammu and Kashmir, an overloaded SUV lost control, skidded off the road, and plunged into a deep gorge along the Gulabgarh-Machail road. The accident resulted in the loss of three lives, including that of a 15-day-old infant, and left twelve others injured. Among the deceased were identified as Daya Krishan, aged 36, and Sabita Devi, aged 30, while the infant's name was not disclosed.

The injured individuals were promptly provided medical assistance, with four of them being in critical condition. They were rushed to the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu for specialized treatment. Meanwhile, the district administration of Kishtwar acted swiftly, announcing immediate ex-gratia relief measures to assist the affected families. A sum of ₹50,000 was offered to the families of the deceased, while ₹10,000 was allocated for each of the critically injured individuals from the District Red Cross Fund.

The tragic incident underscores the importance of road safety measures and the need for vigilance, especially on treacherous routes like the Gulabgarh-Machail road. It also highlights the critical role of emergency response services in promptly attending to such accidents to mitigate the loss of lives and minimize injuries.
