NEW DELHI: The Delhi BJP alleged on Monday that there was a scam of Rs 20 crore in the Delhi Jal Board, and demanded that an FIR be filed against Arvind Kejriwal, the then-chief minister of Delhi and Chairman of the Jal Board.

Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, the leader of the opposition in the Delhi Assembly, said during a press conference: "First off, despite numerous letters from the CAG, the Delhi Government has not had the accounts of the Delhi Jal Board audited since 2015–16, and the debt owed by the Delhi Jal Board is also growing. Jal Board has become a haven for corruption" he  said.

State spokesman Ajay Sehrawat was also present during the press meet. Bidhuri said that corruption of fresh Rs 20 crore in Jal Board came to the fore when Lt. Governor intervened.

The BJP leader mentioned that a scam was going on in Jal Board since about 2015, under which crores of rupees were embezzled with the connivance of Jal Board staff, fund collector agents appointed by Jal Board and officials of a private bank.

He also mentioned that the consumers who used to come to the Jal Board offices to deposit bills at the kiosks of private firmjs, this company used to deposit their cash and checks in fake accounts, which was well known to the Jal Board employee, but this thing could not come out because everyone's share in it was fixed.

Bidhuri expressed surprise that Kejriwal increased the fee paid to the private firm and extended the contract of the private company for two years after the scam was discovered in 2018.

He said that even though Kejriwal was aware of everything, his refusal to cooperate with the police was evidence of his involvement. He claimed that this scandal might have been worth even Rs 200 crore if the Jal Board accounts had been properly investigated.

Bidhuri said, the BJP requests that the police look into the reason why Arvind Kejriwal did not file a police FIR. He claimed that the Kejriwal government should have filed a police FIR after learning about the scam in 2018; failing to do so is evidence of their patronage.
